About PistonWorks

PistonWorks is a vehicle maintenance tracking app designed to help you keep track of all your vehicles and their service history. From oil changes to major repairs, PistonWorks makes it easy to log maintenance events, track costs, and stay on top of your vehicle care.

Getting Started

Adding Your First Vehicle

  1. Tap the "+" button on the garage screen
  2. Enter your vehicle details (name, year, make, model, etc.)
  3. Save and start tracking maintenance

Logging Maintenance Events

  1. Select a vehicle from your list
  2. Tap "Add Service"
  3. Fill in the details (type, date, cost, notes, etc.)
  4. Attach a photo if desired
  5. Save to keep a permanent record

Frequently Asked Questions

How many vehicles can I track?

The free version allows you to track 1 vehicle. If you need to track more, you can purchase the unlimited vehicles upgrade through the in-app purchase.

Is my data backed up?

All data is stored locally on your device. We recommend regularly backing up your device through iTunes or iCloud to ensure your maintenance records are safe. Your device backups will include your PistonWorks data.

Can I export my maintenance records?

Yes, you can export vehicle records as a PDF or CSV.

Where is my data stored?

All your vehicle and maintenance data is stored locally on your device. Nothing is sent to external servers. See our Privacy Policy for more details.

How do maintenance reminders work?

You can set up reminders per vehicle. PistonWorks will send you local notifications when maintenance is due. Make sure you've granted notification permissions in your device settings.

Can I attach photos to maintenance records?

Yes! You can attach a photo to each maintenance event. These photos are stored locally on your device and are great for documenting work or keeping receipts.

What about in-app purchases?

The only in-app purchase is the unlimited vehicles upgrade. This is a one-time purchase that allows you to track as many vehicles as you want. All payment processing is handled securely by Apple.

I purchased the upgrade but it's not working

Try these steps:

  1. Restart the app completely
  2. Check your App Store purchase history to confirm the purchase went through
  3. Make sure you're using the same Apple ID
  4. If issues persist, contact us at the email above

Troubleshooting

App crashes or freezes

  • Make sure you're running the latest version from the App Store
  • Restart your device
  • If the problem persists, contact us with details about when the crash occurs

Photos not appearing

  • Check that PistonWorks has permission to access your photos in Settings → Privacy → Photos
  • Make sure the photos still exist in your photo library

Reminders not working

  • Verify notification permissions: Settings → Notifications → PistonWorks
  • Check that you've set up the reminder correctly in the app
  • Ensure your device isn't in Do Not Disturb mode

Overview

PistonWorks is designed with your privacy in mind. We believe your vehicle maintenance data should stay yours, on your device.

Data Storage

All vehicle and maintenance records you create in PistonWorks are stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. Your data never leaves your device and is never transmitted to our servers or any third-party servers.

What We Don't Collect

  • We do not collect any personal information
  • We do not track your usage or behavior
  • We do not use analytics or tracking services
  • We do not share any data with third parties
  • We do not have access to your vehicle or maintenance records

In-App Purchases

PistonWorks offers an in-app purchase to unlock unlimited vehicle tracking. All payment processing is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not have access to your payment information. Apple may collect and process payment data according to their own privacy policy.

We only store a simple flag on your device indicating whether you have purchased the unlimited vehicles feature. This is stored locally in your device's UserDefaults.

Local Notifications

PistonWorks can send you maintenance reminders if you choose to enable them. These notifications are scheduled and managed entirely on your device by iOS. No data is sent to remote servers for notification purposes.

iCloud Sync (Future Feature)

Currently, PistonWorks does not sync your data. If we add iCloud sync in the future, it will be opt-in and your data will only sync between your own devices via Apple's iCloud service, subject to Apple's privacy policy.

Third-Party Services

PistonWorks does not integrate with any third-party services, analytics platforms, or advertising networks.

Data Security

Since all your data is stored locally on your device, it is protected by your device's security features (passcode, Face ID, Touch ID, etc.). We recommend keeping your device secure and backing up your data through iTunes or iCloud backups.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
